Hard case question

I recently traded my MW 5450 for a PT-6.
About a month from now, my tuba and I will be flying from Chicago to Seattle.
Currently, the hard case I have does not fit my PT-6. There is a piece of foam on the inside of the case that rests on the bell when I attempt to close the case. Other than this, the tuba fits inside the case. Does anyone know either how exactly I go about trimming the foam down (is it even safe to do?) or some place where I can trade in my hard case? Or is there anyone out there willing to trade only hard cases (long shot, I know)?
I am in the Chicago area.

Thanks,

Alex

That piece of foam is the obvious reason for the lid not coming down. But it is only the first of possibly more problems. When this foam block is gone, what will be the next hindrance for closing the lid?

Removing foam from the lid will make the holding area for the tuba asymmetric regarding at least the bell, as very vulnerable part of the bell structure. Will you be able to estimate the tensions created?

I have the same case- an MTS 1207 for my King 2341. Do no cut, remove or modify the foam. My King has a 20" bell, and the top foam that is in place is designed to hold the bell in place as it is. Yes- it feels weird to close the case- (like you are forcing it too hard) and I had to get used to it, but you are not damaging the bell. The foam is what holds it in place, and keeps the horn from sliding from left to right.

Also, when the case is open and you are placing the horn inside, does the bottom bow fit snug right up to the padding? If not, contact MTS, and they will supply you with a filler pad to take up the area that's not touching the horn. I emailed them, and they sent me one! GET THE PADDING to support the bottom bow! Email me if you want some pictures of what I am referring to. MTS is GREAT- They are outstanding to work with.

A PT-6 is considerably larger than a 2341.

Point taken- but the large foam piece that holds the bell in place on the top should not be trimmed. Even though it may feel like it's too tight, it's suppposed to fit like that. If not sure what to do, contact MTS and they can advise as well.
