(and while I was digging around the Popular Science site, I found a interesting article about US marching bands in the 1930s - some great photos! Scroll down to page 49 for the multi page feature or use the "contents page" to jump to the article.

Again, I am operating off of what the patent said. I am sure that these do dampen after ring of these large bells. I am going to consult some old timers from Conn to see what they know...

Another potential Conn patent never making it to real life despite a persistent recent rumouring: short action valves on Eb sousaphones.

I am not going to mix rebuilt valve sets for a test, but those seeing lots of Conn sousaphones coming through their shops have said that the pistons on Conn long stroke BBb and Eb sousaphones are the same. Only the through ports vary in bore.

I own up to my mistake. After a more careful (and more awake) reading of the patent, I realize that I was mistaken. I have edited the article to reflect this.

This is my fault again as well. I edited the comments in that post to reflect reality. Thank you for correcting me. I like having my feet held to the fire. This is how we learn things. I had gotten mixed up about something and ended up confused. I look like a real boob right now. I have to stop posting while running on empty.
