I am new here

New member here. My son is starting High School Marching Band this fall. He has played Tuba for the past year (not two) in middle school, but is beginning to play the Sousaphone. Of course the Sousa they send home (a Satin King 2350) is not the best, cracked mouthpipe and no bits, so I am working on remedying that.

I've already learned a lot just reading the posts, especially the ones on cleaning satin silver!!

Got any tips on encouraging my son, but not overdoing it, so he doesn't get burned out. He has had private lessons from a non-tuba playing band teacher, but the wife and I are looking into another teacher with tuba and Sousa experience.

I am in Oklahoma.

Ryan Robinson is the new tuba prof at Oklahoma City Univ. He's a recent doctoral grad of Univ. of North Texas. He's also bringing in a new grad student, Matt Wilshire, who just finished his undergrad at UNT. Either could provide lessons or at least point you in the right direction. I'll direct them to this post!
