2nd valve slide issue

Happy 4th USA.

The 2nd valve of my euphonium, over the last couple of months, has begun to creep out when playing. I've been playing through tunes and all of a sudden when I press down 2nd valve, I am serenaded with the PVC-pipe sound of death.

I've wiped all the grease off of the slide itself, which has helped some, but has not resolved the problem. Next step is to take a Qtip and remove all of the grease from the inside of the slide receiver.

Am I destined for a trip to a repair shop or is their a fix someone might suggest? Thanks.

The do it yourself solution is to keep playing the way you have been until the slide falls on the floor and gets knocked out of round.

A few minutes with a tubing expander by a competent repairman will solve your problem. The cost will be well worth it. Just do it.

Tubing expansion by a repairman is the permanent/ideal solution. However, I have the same problem with a euphonium, and a little Hetman Ultra slide grease (#9) does the trick for me (just be careful not to get any on your valves; it has a consistency sort of like rubber cement). This, BTW, was suggested by a repairman.

Hello,
You are blowing far too hard.

Heavy slide grease (Schilke) solved the problem for the first valve slide of my B & S C trumpet.
