Having seen what middle schoolers can do to a tuba, I'd be interested.
Is there a web address?

"Thus the whole instrument is LARVA IN GERMANY"....
Hey....I don't want any larva in my tuba!!
Reminds me of that maggots-and-rat-in-the-helicon story from the old TubeNet days.....

At the current exchange rates those prices put the larger 4 valve at about $4,400, without any import duty or shipping. A reasonable price, but not a huge bargain.

Scott, I can't find the link for you (maybe someone else has it) but I was referring to an old TubeNet thread in which folks discussed the strangest things that they've found in a tuba.
One guy got an old helicon and apparently there was a decomposed rat and some maggots in it; when the repair shop was working on it they heated it up to take it apart, and you can imagine the smell.....there was even a link to a picture....!
ADDENDUM: I think Joe is right; I may be mixing up two separate stories.

Some of the details aren't quite accurate, but he's probably referring to this (to spare the faint of heart, I'll make it show only if you click on it):

OK, back to the fiberglass tubas: How do they sound? Like a fiberglass sousaphone?
Inquiring minds want to know. But -- not so much to order one myself just for laughs. I'm waiting for a brave Tubenet member to get one and post a review. That American Flag motif design looks terrific. Can a tuba get by on looks alone?
