I always remember an unfortunate experience of a Bb player I knew. He had a nice boosey hawks bb imperial that he stored in the band hall which was in the basement of an office block.
He started to complain of feeling ill after playing the tuba this happened on a couple of rehearsals in a row. So he decided to take the tuba home and give it a bath so borrowed a car and took it home.
He gave it a soaking for about 20 mins in a Luke warm bath and then hooked the shower hose up to the lead pipe and let the water flow. And was both surprised disgusted and ill when a dead mouse floated out of the bell so much that he failed to keep a hold of the tuba which was now full of water and very heavy and like all pieces of falling bread landed butter side down on the faucets damaging both the tuba bell and the bath.
He can laugh about it now 20 years later does anybody have any similar cautionary tales

Being a tuba player at a major California university. I think it maybe a somebody in the tuba section trying to sneak off a game football during the game in their sousaphone and forgetting to get the bloody thing out of the sousaphone!! My vote goes to the dead rat EEW!!!

Anyone found a dead cockroach ( those big freaking flying ones) inside their Tuba or Sousaphone while cleaning them?

fortunately, a bag of confetti. I did find a piece of march music in my sousaphone, which linked it to a previous owner. I'm lucky.
