For those in the military/pro band world, how does one apporach this excerpt? Is one expected in an audition to play every note and not leave a few out for breaths? Either way, it's not for the faint of heart! Thanks...

That would be something if you could do it in one breathe! I always left at least one 16th out for a breath and played it in time. I haven't worked on it in years, but I recall dropping the A flat four before I on the "e" of beat 3. Also lots of quick breaths in the beginning so you can hit the 16ths with a (very) full tank.

One tip is if you are playing CC tuba, play the low D flats 123.

If you play this at 126 bpm, the phrases are makable on one breath. You have to start the long one on a full tank though. Other than that, just make sure you plan your breathing for the least interruptive places in the music. Think musical, not survival.
