I'm doing some research on Brand Tuba of the beginning of the twentieth century and came across this brand. Many brands with York, Holton, Martin, that were manufactured at the same time are found today and same way we can get an idea of their sound, but an Courturier Tuba is very hard to find,I ask those who have had the opportunity to play in a model Cone, told me about this horn, about strengths and weaknesses of the cone system.
Thank you all.
Has anyone played one Couturier Conical Tuba?

Re: Has anyone played one Couturier Conical Tuba?
I owned an Eb Couturier helicon, but sold it about 5 years ago. I didn't play it much, My admitedly imperfect memory is that it was a lightweight horn with a fairly small bore and a medium to small sound, the low end was hard to play, and intonation was definitely a challenge. The conical design did not seem to make any difference.
On the plus side, it has very unusual slides - really quite beautiful. You can see a dozen artistic pictures of the valves and slides of this exact horn at http://www.tubahouse.com/defaultbc.asp? ... hotography , about 1/4 of the way down the scrollbar. When you see a series of pictures of silver sinewy slides - that's it. Mark Chalabala bought it from me and took these great pictures.
