I will be going, as well as my partner at school, (who plays barifoneum).
Don't know about any events not associated with Midwest, unless there is a soloist with the CSO. I haven't looked at their schedule yet, but I will before Tuesday.

I plan to attend on Wednesday, Dec. 15.
In past years, there have been presentations dedicated to the tuba featuring Dan Perantoni, Marty Erickson, and others. There have also been great performances and clinics by Boston Brass and similar ensembles. This year, the only tuba-related session that I see on the schedule is on Thursday:

I will be there. I'm looking forward to the trip and seeing friends/enjoying myself more than the actual conference.
I'm sure I'll enjoy trying out some horns, too.

I will be playing with the Grand Valley State University Symphonic Wind Ensemble as a demonstration band at the conference. The GVSU Honors Brass Quintet will also be playing a piece with the High School Womans Honors Choir later in the day on Saturday. Hope to see you there.

Chicago Civic Orchestra will be playing Tuesday night of the conference. The concert will include both Rite of Spring AND Shostakovich Symphony 9. Pretty good tuba program in my opinion. The concert begins at 7:30 in the Hilton grand ballroom.

If you don't mind spending the extra money and if there are still tickets available, I would check out the December 14th Chicago Symphony Concert at Symphony Hall instead. The program is HUGE!
-Wagner's Hail Bright Abode(Tannhauser)
-Overture to Tannhauser
-Strauss Death and Transfiguration
-Beethoven Symphony 5
-Handel's Hallelujah Chorus!
This is the 100th anniversary concert conducted by Leonard Slatkin and is the same program CSO played 100 years ago. If you want to hear great tuba while in town for Midwest, Gene is the guy to hear these days. IMHO.
