I’m looking at college audition lists. I have noticed three etude books showing up on almost every list. They are the Bordogni, Rochut Melodious Etudes Book 1, and Bordogni-Rochut.

Are all of these the same book?
More Specifically, do they all have the same etudes in the same order? Or is the order different in each book?
Or does each book have a different set of etudes?

Alex, these books all contain the same etudes, but from different publishers. I think the best books are from Carl Fischer. They are Bordogni Melodious Etudes for Trombone books 1-3 but they are transcribed (by Rochut) for trombone, so you have to read down an octave. Robert King Music has the book transcribed for tuba, but the Fischer book is more "user-friendly".

Marco Bordogni was the dude what wrote the original tunes for voice. Fast forward a few years and Johannes Rochut transcribed them while simultaneously arranging them in a progressive manner. That "Rochut-Bordogni" book series is titled "Melodious Etudes for Trombone" and I think there are three volumes in total.

Bordogni is a pretty popular fellow now, and there are number publications of his vocalise compositions, and they are sometimes noted differently with regards to the composer. You should see some kind of title for the book, though ("Melodious Etudes", "Bel Canto Studies", etc.). Overall, though, the tuba professor at the school should point you in the right direction, so feel free to call or e-mail them.
