Hi-
I had a talk years back with Don 'Red' Menza, who discussed growing up here in the area, and playing just over the border at the old Crystal Beach facility in Canada. Maynard would come in and literally play half of the gigs there on valve trombone and the other half on trumpet. He was a monster musician at 16, but most folks don't realize that he not only doubled on valve bone, but played it 50% in those early years. Maynard was unique!
