I remember seeing a website with pictures of a fellow at a conference demonstrating all sorts of instruments, one of them being a helicon with a giant bell.
No, it wasn't Dale's "Cool Tuba" site.
I think the fellow was playing serpent, too.
Can anyone point me to that website?

You're absolutely correct; it was Mr. Krush. I sent him an e-mail and received the most fascinating reply. He told me all about the history of his helicon and seems to be a warm, generous individual.

I spoke to Jay about that helicon one year at the Philadelphia TubaChristmas. He said that people called it the "helicopter" because of the huge, 29" bell. It is also very heavily engraved, even more so than most Distin instruments, but I can't remember who he said it was engraved for. The conversation came up because I brought my Distin BBb tuba to that event.

Jay was conducting, so he didn't bring it with him, but I would love to check it out in person. My Distin BBb helicon is more of a standard size, with an 18" bell, but it is fully engraved with crossed American flags over the logo.
