new etude books

Post by dvtuba »

Dave Holben (Professor at Pepperdine Universtiy) has started a new publishing company.

Two books of note are the 39 Etudes for Tuba and the 39 Etudes for Euphonium written by Dr. Cherry Beauregard and edited/annotated by Dave.

Most of you may remember Cherry as the Tuba Professor at the Eastman School until 1996 or the recordings he made as an original member of the Eastman Brass. Some might recognize him from his transcriptions of the Verne Reynolds etude book. At any rate, Cherry is a teaching master and has taught many successful players like Michael Sanders, Paul Erion, and Dave Holben himself.

Dave is a graduate of the Eastman School, the University of Arizona, and USC. He's studied with L.A.'s top performer Jim Self and L.A. Phil's Norm Pearson. In addition to teaching at Pepperdine and being a freelance L.A. musician, he's recorded with the Eastman Wind Ensemble and performed with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and the San Diego Symphony. Put simply, Dave is a fantastic player!
