Firebird + G&W = ?

Post by TheHatTuba »

Does anyone use a Giddings and Webster mouthpiece on their Firebird? I have the Baer F and was considering the Bora, but if anyone has other suggestions, I'd like to hear them.

I play a 181 which was the predecessor to the Firebird, and have found the Jon Sass by G&W works very well - It's about the same depth as the Baer F (MMVI) but has a slightly larger bore. It seems to give me a broader, more mellow sound than the Baer. The Baer MMVI is great for solos, but maybe a bit aggressive for ensemble work. Also, even though the 181 has an american size receiver, the Euro size shank seemed to clean up some of the intonation issues. (Maybe all in my head?) :tuba:
