Some very fine playing from both of you! I've never heard this piece before, and it's quite interesting. I may have to program this piece in the near future.
I'm also with Doc on the Vaughan Williams. I'd love to hear it!

There are two suites, which one did you play? Is one "better" than the other. One also has been recorded on CD recently.

There is a recording of Harvey and John playing it. It is on one of these round black flat things.

You can get the Harvey Phillips recording on iTunes for a couple bucks. No big deal.

You can get the Jolley/Pilafian version on Spotify or iTunes.
I didn't see the Harvey Phillips version anywhere.
As a side note, I prefer Bloke's version over either Harvey or Sam as it is live and "real". Thanks for posting!

I'd take a live recording with a messup here and there over a pop from analog or perfection from digital any day.

snorlax wrote:May I also add that Alec Wilder's original sonata for tuba and piano is another overlooked and underplayed piece.
As more and more "serious" works appeared, Alec's music seemed to fall into neglect, if not disfavor.
And this was not due to the actual music in some cases, but the lack of availability. The Margun Music scores were a great struggle to purchase from the distributor and I think many dealers eventually just gave up and therefore the players could not get the pieces.
Hal Leonard has most of them now and I believe the music is more readily available.

I REALLY enjoyed listening to this recording of the Wilder trio - great playing from all three!

The Golden Crest LP on which the Harvey Phillips performance of this piece is contained is buried in storage in one of the boxes of the few LPs that I kept.
Well played, Bloke. Thanks for making this music available to listen to.

nice recording there bloke. Funny enough, I am currently working on a smaller version of my masters thesis on Alec wilder's life, and specifically this trio.
