His neck and bitts come at him from the right and he holds them constantly while he plays. He does sound great though !
After playing Sousaphone since 1964 I won't fault him for holding on to the neck - with that sort of mouthpiece control I say let him do what he wants! Is there an official place for the left hand, anyway? I have seen some old books with photos of "proper Sousaphone playing positions" but I don't recall if the left hand is specifically placed - when I am playing I like to be sure my neck and bits are not shifting around, especially if I am marching.

I was impressed by the recording balance - you don't usually get that with several hundred brass blowers, even in a "concert" setting. Whoever did the sound board was a master!

WARNING - Comments from a narrow minded, overly opinionated old fart follow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. If I was jivin like that I'd be hangin on to my axe to.

2. As that old bugger that had a chair named after him in chitown used to say - if it works, do it!!!!!!

3 I've seen some things on utube where that guy with the handle Northern has puffed his cheeks on occassion

4. If you only heard, without seeing what's going on, would you care about the rest ?

5. I reckon that is pretty damned good - beasts the living s... out of a lot of utube crap.

Just my thoughts on it all.
