Here are a couple of photos of my MW 2250, which just made it out the door before WWBW closed their retail store in South Bend at the end of September. I was a little anxious as I live literally half a world away, but I'm delighted to say that it all worked out very well. The freight tracking showed that it left South Bend on the 30th September, which was cutting things pretty close!

Here's the box after the top layer of air cushions was removed; also included were a couple of gigbags and few other things (music stand, tuba stand & mouthpiece)




Here's the tuba in the MTS 1204 case (fitted for the Miraphone Firebird) - it's a perfect fit.



I'd like to give thanks to Jason Allison (now an ex-WWBW guy) who was very helpful, and a big shout to my good friend LJV for all his help with choosing this particular tuba.

I would not normally buy a tuba like this without play testing it first, but Larry and I have many similar views on equipment choices (and most other tuba-related issues ) so I was comfortable to take the punt in this situation. I have no regrets, it's a very fun tuba to play!
I'm looking forward to playing it more, and to using it in the orchestra next week.

True, but what made it OK was that the box was strapped to a pallet - so it was always handled by forklift.

In my experience tubas travelling by air freight on a pallet are MUCH safer than travelling in a case in the hold with the baggage.

I remember when if all the players from the then ABC and Elizabethan Trust orchestras - eight all up, got together to compare their equipment all would be Boosey & Hawkes 3+1Eb comp with matte silver finish provided by the orchestras. Now there would be quite a collection of different makes and models.

Regardless of any similarities, I think it would be interesting to compare them side-by-side.

There is a piston valve Culbertson Vulcano. I've never seen one except in pictures.

I'd really like to play around with one of those huge rotor Culbertson F tubas despite of the intonation issues I've heard about.

2+2 says that the guy shooting the video was Jason Allison(Spacebender67) and that it was shot in the warehouse at WWBW. I guess we'll have to ask him who his partner in crime was. It is interesting that he was so helpful to Cam and then does this?

I don't know Jason Allison. But... if he was indeed the cameraman for this little stunt he is just as guilty as the chap who tossed down the tuba. This wasn't a random act that just happened to get caught on a video. It had to have been planned and staged. The cameraman (whoever he was) needs to step forward and be recognized for this wonderful act of photojournalism.
