Wearing comfortable shoes will have more of an influence on your timbre than silver plating or lacquer.

Really? I hope what he wrote was pretty offensive, and not simply a message letting folks know that there is a correct way to spell this word, and it's "timbre".

One thing to give a sermon; whole 'nuther to simply inform. We'll see how long this message lasts though...

Other than silver vs. lacquer, do gold brass, rose brass, or other brass alloys have an real impact on the sound? My experience is that the rose brass tuba I had didn't project as well as the yellow brass versions of the same horn, but I loved the sound quality. Again, this could have been more to individual sample variation than the type of brass, but I do wonder if the brass alloy has an impact.
