What do you want to do with the tuba?

Also check around as much as you can in the local classifieds and school systems. Used tubas tend to be sold by word-of-mouth among musicians themselves.

I agree with those who advise buying the best quality you can afford, used tuba. You will most likely maintain the majority of its value if you decide to sell it and get a newer or better horn.

Buy as much used tuba as you feel comfortable purchasing from the For Sale section of TubeNet. Used tubas usually resell over and over for the exact same price in case you decide to try trombone next month. :D

Go to Baltimore Brass. I'm sure they can help you out.

There's a chance to sample new and used tubas for sale, as well as hear great playing (for free) at the U.S. Army Band 22nd Annual Tuba-Euphonium Conference at Fort Myer, Virginia (adjacent to Arlington Nat'l Cemetery). I recommend borrowing or buying a large shank mouthpiece to take with you.

BTW, Øystein Baadsvik, famed Eefer artist, is giving a recital 2:30 - 4:00 pm, Saturday, 29 Jan 2005.
