Hi all...

I have been asked to perform on a New Music Festival this March with the theme of "Music and Literature". I am at a bit of a loss in looking for tunes written for tuba and accompaniment that would fit this theme. Does anyone have any suggestions for new-ish compositions for tuba that would fit the bill? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe Three Grim Vignettes by Tony Zilincik. Program notes:

The "Three Grim Vignettes" are inspired by the great Ray Bradbury novel, "Something Wicked This Way Comes." The first movement, "Something Wicked..." tells of the coming into town of the eerie carnival. Movement two, "An Infernal Contraption" depicts the fell machinery of the carnival, such as a broken Merry-Go-Round that runs backward and reverses time for the rider. The third movement, "Malevolence" speaks ominously of the carnival goers wishes coming true as promised by the proprietors, but with disastrous results.

Maybe this is not new enough, but Tomasi's "Etre ou ne pas etre" (To be or not to be) from 1963 might be a good start.

I'd second the Tomasi if you have some trombones to join you, and the wonderland duets by Luedeke if there's another tubist available and a narrator. Maybe Tony Plog's solo trumpet version of Animal Ditties taken down an octave or two?

Perhaps the „Galgenlieder“ by Christian Morgenstern, set to music by Jan Koetsier, Editions Marc Reift, Switzerland, 1992?
