Tuning a Jupiter 482

Don't laugh too loud...

Where is the main tuning slide on a Jupiter 482 tuba?

My community band has recently purchased a Jupiter 482 compact tuba. I've been asked to give it a work out. I usually play a 4v rotary so I'm not that familiar with pistons.

My problem is that the horn plays 30 cents sharp with all the slides (that I can find) are pushed in and using the factory supplied mouthpiece.

I've tried pulling out the slide in the lead pipe but it almost falls out when the open bugle tuning gets close to normal at 440. Is this the only "main" tuning slide for the horn? Am I missing something.

OK, now you can chuckle.

I had one of those ten years ago. It played very well in tune right out of the box. Good tuba. Bought it new from Baltimore Brass, $2400.

If the main slide does not bring it down enough you could try using a sousphone bit. That will also change the mouthpiece position and angle, but sometimes that can be an improvement.
