Would I be out of line taking bass and contrabass tubas to other professional band auditions? I know it would be fine in the Corps, but what about other service bands, colleges, etc.

For an audition - playing on whatever you sound your best on is the most important thing. So, if that means you bring 2 horns, bring 2 horns. On the job though, you might get REALLY tired of lugging 2 horns to a gig... or maybe not. Just my $.02.

After much of my own personal debate with this, I decided that I don't care what other people think about this subject. For instance, you hire someone to build you new cabinets. He shows up with two truckloads of tools. What do you remember after he leaves? How good the cabinets look.

I don't care what people think if I were to bring four horns to a gig (that would be a new one, but still). If I can't make them forget about the horns and remember my playing, it doesn't matter.

One of the recent special band auditions required the applicant to only bring contrabass tuba. If it's not specified bring whatever you want.

I would say, any time you are in an audition situation, bring whatever equipment you think will make you play great. 1, 2, 3, 4 horns, who cares? Play your *** off and have a great time!

When going to a gig, audition, rehearsal, etc., I haven't played before, I take a bunch of stuff, not just multiple instruments, but all the accessories that can reasonably accompany the type of gig, etc., I'm going to. I can always leave stuff locked in the car if I don't need it, but if I don't bring it and do end up needing it....
