Joe will be there because there's no requirement to join the Army in order to attend.

Snow is fun. Last year I had a beautiful tour of Detroit added to my flight from Memphis to National. Actually, the trip to Memphis was an add-on, too.

I was originally booked BHM->ATL->DCA. Instead, I flew BHM->MEM->(within sight of the runway at DCA)->DTW->(local hotel)->DCA.

I'm really sorry I missed the pizza party at the Virginian Suites - but apparently I didn't miss any music.

This was all after I had originally booked my trip on AmTrak - until AmTrak told me that "we're sorry, the train will not run on that day".

This year...I think I'll drive. The good news is that I get to bring the bloke-ified Conn 36J. [and...perhaps...a few ABS mouthpieces of a rather experimental nature...]

Snow doesn't slow down or detour my driving! (although....this might be the last long drive for my 2003 VW GTI - the floor is open for suggestions on a replacement. Any tuba players with a Lexus 200 (I think that's what it's called - Prius in wolf's clothing)).

It's a mere 750 for me. I've been known to do it in one day - but I prefer to take 2.
I alternate between "laying up" a mere 4 hours away and stopping 1/2 way. One year, I stayed in the same motel each way.

There are two hazards I worry about: the stretch East of Knoxville (treacherous hills and
heavy truck traffic), and the flat stretch in VA just after coming down to sea level (toll collectors in Interceptors). Other than that, it's straight, flat, and boring.

Current plan is to leave BHM at 0400 and take my time - getting there in time for a Wednesday evening concert. I'll have 1 seat and room for 1 tuba. A passenger who can drive a stick shift would be welcome.

I'll probably take 2 days to get home, but might be convinced to kick it in if I had a co-driver.
