Lets say you were a judge for a high school Honor band audition would you rather here all of the scales one octave eighth notes at 140 bpm or two to three octaves at 110?
And if one of the assigned pieces has no dynamic markings would you prefer the player add in some for musicality or just play it exactly how its written?

play only.....[what] you sound GREAT on; it is after all an audition.
This is the only piece of advice you need.

I'd rather hear them played perfectly. Perfect Rhythm, perfect pitch, perfect, consistant articulation and releases with a beautiful tone.

On the etude...you should add your own musicality. Not only does it make the music more interesting to play and listen to, but it also sets you apart from the other competitors. Just make sure it makes sense in musical terms.
