Yamaha 201 tuba

I just inherited an old Yamaha 201 tuba from a buddy of mine. He bought it from some school for around $10 that was closing its band program. I was originally just going to use it for Tubachristmas but he said I could keep it, just as long as if I didn't want it anymore it'd go back to him. I wasn't too excited by the looks of the horn (and the fact it only has 3 valves) but it actually gives a pretty big sound.
is this a pretty good tuba for a guy who just plays as a hobby (maybe community band/college bands)?

The price was certainly right. These aren't bad horns. Besides... you've got yourself a pretty good start on a four-valve tuba if you run across a YBB-321 that's missing the first three valves!
