Is there any place you can get a Conn 2 mouthpiece, or has it gone the way of the brontosaurus?

Conn does still sell a mouthpiece that they call the "2" as shown here:

This doesn't have the same exterior profile as the old french horn like shaped Conn 2 mouthpieces, but I believe that the interior and rim are essentially the same.

My Conn 2 from back in the day, next to a 7B Stainless Steel CLONE looks to be pretty much the same, minus the rim.

If I find my calipers at some point I'll check the measurements.

The "UMI2" has the same rim and cup in a semi-heavyweight design and can still sometimes be found.
I like the clarity the Conn 2 adds to large tubas. A great choice for a highschooler on a vintage 6/4 BBb who doesn't want to go the boutique mouthpiece route. Slightly (slightly) opening up the throat on these mouthpieces also works wonders.

Hi - I have an vintage one of these, and a student walked in the other day with a new modern one.
They seem to be pretty close in design, he sounds great on his, but his IS modern and still labeled "Conn 2".

I believe the cup IS pretty much the same as the 7B, but the rim seems wider and more rounded with a less sharp edge than the 7B. I don't know if the backbore is any different, but I think the old Conn 2 had a little narrower backbore than the Helleberg 7B.

No it's mine, this discussion made me think of thinning out the pile of mouthpieces sitting around collecting dust in my practice room.

Pretty accurate description of mine...inside edge is really sharp though, almost to the point of nuisance.

lol, no thanks, I don't use the 2 I already have (one purple for a particular group that wanted that, and one glow in the dark).

My band has a Conn 2 mouthpiece but it is in terrible condition.

Well, dang, I am surprised to see the Conn 1792-2 seems to be out of production or something.

I have several times thought it would be a considerable service to the tuba playing world to bring back that whole range - the Conn 1, 2 and 3, and there was apparently a Conn 4 that might have been interesting for certain purposes. Someone who worked for Schilke at some point in the past told me if you could direct an inquiry to the right person at "Conn", you could get one made to order, as they still have the means to do this, but I have no idea who that would be - emails to "Conn" will be ignored, of course - and I don't think it's a practical solution.

I was lucky enough to be able to get a Conn 1, a Conn 2, a Conn 3 and a Conn 4 and still have them. I had several Conn 2, but they were donated to worthy students. I have one of each, now and will hold on to them until my estate is settled and they are distributed as my will directs. For out of the box mouthpieces, they are wonderfully well made and suited for their intended use. It is sort of a triumph of mass production.
