yup- lamp cord will work. It really is diminishing return when you buy high end speaker cable . With sophisticated audio equipment and good to great speakers, a trained ear might hear a difference, but then again, maybe not...and what is that difference worth in terms of dollars and cents...

Even quicker would be to go down to your local hardware store and take however many feet you need off the spool. Then you can pick up 1/4" plugs from Radio Shack. Super cheap and will do the trick.

What's the deal? I always thought that (basically) braided lamp cord is fine for speakers, and the larger gauge, the better it carries the signal. Have "new and exciting" discoveries been made re: speaker wire?
I'm sure you can find MUCH more expensive (and more impressive looking) "speaker wire".
This is important when your audience listens with its ears (and you listen with your wallet).
More expensive is always better.
Usually, the connectors (and the connection to the connectors) is more critical than the bleeping WIRE.
Of course, for portable/public use, sturdy construction and heavy-duty insulation is worth paying for.
