Hi:

Simichrome is the good stuff for getting the tarnish off of and polishing up a raw brass tuba. The problem to me is the little tube and the price of the little tube: $12.95. I try to conserve the polish but stll can't even get half of the tuba polished before I run out of Simichrome. Two or three tubes is $25-38 dollars! That's a lot!

Is Simichrome available in larger and cheaper sizes? I've looked online and couldn't find any and asked at the auto parts store where I buy the tubes and their catalogs didn't show anything larger.

If not Simichrome, are there other cheaper alternatives? I've seen something online called Flitz but haven't found it in stores.

('It' is a Miraphone Perinet 3v student horn. 3 upright valves, good sound for what it is, much stouter than other horns of this type. Just had an 'economy' overhaul @ Oberloh. New valve stems and buttons, valves not excellent but OK. Looks good but needs polishing. Open to reasonable offers. Interested? PM me.)

wwbw used to sell flitz a long time ago and I thought it worked pretty well for things like tuning slides, but never tried it on a whole instrument. It too came in a little tube, but a few years back I was at a trade show for fire chiefs (of all things) and they had a booth where they were promoting it for polishing fire truck bells, wheels, etc... and had it in absolutely HUGE containers, so I know they DO sell it that way.

Wow. The prices sure vary depending on vendor!

The lowest was an Amazon seller:

http://www.amazon.com/Simichrome-Metal- ... B0036ZE6HY" target="_blank"

$59.94 for the big 1000 gram can. Other vendors are in the low/middle 70s and up.
