A lot of that material was recorded in the basement "studio" of his home on the S side of Chicago which had a rather low ceiling and was not conducive to great recordings. While what Brian said about it being done with an instrument he picked up in "college" (Curtis) which was a reject from his teacher - Donatelli- is true for some things - a lot of the" practice" recordings would have been made using the Holton copy of No1.TheHatTuba wrote:He used the York? A lot of factors would have influenced the sound quality. Still a shade better than a lot of todays Utube stuff. Not bad for somebody who did not even get a bachelors degree - let alone a DMA.

I think there is some confusion about which picture we are talking about....
I believe that some folks are thinking of the cover to the book: "Song and Wind", while I think that the OP is refering to the CD:

Yes, OP seems to be referring to the one on the CD cover and the one on the cover of Song and Wind is the one his "college prof" rejected/ Show's what college profs know!

I seem to remember reading (in "Song and Wind"?) that, because of the set up of the instrument, the York did not fit Donatelli's...er...'circumference'.
