981 V 980

Hi Everyone
I've been hunting around for a comparison of playing characteristics of the current 981s V 980s Sovereign EEbs. Haven't found much, but that's probably just a reflection of my search skills.
I'm currently playing my (brass) band's older 982 with a narrow leadpipe and find it to be quite stuffy down low. I've had a blow on a new 980 and find it to be much more open (I think it is a fantastic instrument)... How does the current lot of 981s compare?
I know the 981 has a 19' as opposed to 17' bell, which I guess might mean it would be a less focussed although perhaps slightly weightier sound?
