Just found out via Facebook that Norm passed away last night of a sudden heart attack. I met him via this forum, and because of him got to fulfill a dream to play in my "hometown" City Band. RIP, Norm. You're missed.

What was his screen name here?
Though I didn't know him personally, its always sad to lose someone from our small community, especially this time of year. My thoughts are with his family.

I had no personal relations with Norm, but I had been around his site on the web:
http://www.talentmusic.biz/nrowe.html
He certainly displayed a great sense of humour here on TN:

You need to take a look here to get that one:

Norm even had a very special tuba, a Conn 20J fitted with 4 rotary valves:

My main view on people dying is that we survivers suffer a loss of a source of information.
Looks that this really goes with the loss of Norm.

Terri and I met Norman and Yvonne Rowe a few years ago while traveling up the West coast through Oregon and Washington. At that time... Norman and Yvonne were retired and had been traveling around The Country in a motorhome until it developed problems (burned, I think) and were living in a travel trailer in Gold Beach, Oregon. On the Yahoo Community Music Forum, they went by the name "The Roving Rowes".
Norm's Facebook page says it all...

I am not sure why or how, but I just received this private message from his wife, Yvonne. I did not know him, but it sounds as though I would have much enjoyed meeting him.

My wife and I played in the Memphis community band with Norm and Yvonne for several years and made a trip to Europe with them and their kids. Yvonne ran a - type for hire business and typed a set of my wife's medical school notes for her. Norm and I swapped off a pit position for "Sound of Music" at Theatre Memphis one season and had a short-lived, but working trombone quartet. He was a gem of a guy and a very fine musician. This is truly a shock.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Yvonne and the kids at this time.

This is Yvonne, Norm's wife. I just wanted to say that reading your posts regarding Norm was very uplifting. He was quite a guy and I'm NOT prejudiced. He really enjoyed this forum.

My gosh....THAT'S who that was. I played tuba in the Monterey Peninsula College band back in the early 2000's, and knew him as a virtuoso bass trombone and euph player, but never even knew his name. Wow...happy trails.

Norm Rowe and his wife Yvonne are about as wonderful as people get. I remember after years of kindly persuasion, I relented and attended my first NAMM Show meeting up with Norm and Yvonne.Little did I know that it would lead to wonderful working relationship with Kanstul Musical Instruments! If I had not known Norm and Yvonne none of what I enjoy today would have ever happened. I shall be gratefull for the rest of my life. Such a kind giving person and a musicin's musician, I hope there are tubas in heaven.......
