Hey folks,

One of the groups that I work with has an excellent organist available, but we are running out of pieces to play!

Can anyone recommend any really good pieces for brass quintet & organ?

What is good music? I am never in doubt, when listening myself, but there are elements of individual taste involved.

That said, I don’t remember any works written specifically for your desired formation. You likely have looked through Bruckner’s works. Likely also through the listings in the appendixes of this book

If you are out for works with good effects in churches, you may go for the Venetian antiphonal works for two or three groups of instruments, where careful arranging between various sections of the organ may let that instrument for more than one group.

There also is a repertory for two vocal choirs with or without continuo, where the BQ may one of the choirs. The composer immediately coming to my mind is Heinrich Schütz.

But then you likely are past this stage already.

Z, before I launch into shameless self-promotion, I have to say that my quintet was in the same boat a few years back. We felt like we had played the same stuff and wanted something new. Definitely check out Craig Garner's stuff. Triton's played his Haydn Variations a few times...awesome! Also really like his Saint Saens Organ Symphony. Every organist knows the Widor Toccata...very easy to put together quickly. Gabrieli's are always fun w organ. Also check out some Daniel Pinkham stuff.
