My F tuba's name is Kelly. I named it after the chick that helped me find it.

As I get "upgrades" or new F tubas, they always keep the name kelly. It made things sticky recently because I am dating a girl named kelli also.

If you think things get sticky with you dating a girl named Kelli(Mark), think of how sticky it would get if I named my tuba Kelly. I have been married to the same lady for a very long time. She already knows that my tuba is very important to me. She seems able to deal with that alright. If the tuba had a girl's name, I believe I would be in deep (bleep).

my king is named bertha. i named her so because she a big beautiful woman who love to have me put my lips on her.

When I marched DCi back in the day, I used to call my contrabass B.O.B. It stood for, "Big Ol' B**ch."

My old Yamaha 201 was named Fred, but my father killed him.

My VMI 3302 is named Jean, and she's female, I think...

Mine has a very feminine name as well. It is Adriana. Named after a very pretty girl I met from region band auditions. And when I bought my Conn 52J I thought it was the most beautiful instrument ever, just like this girl. I only wish I had not been a big wimp and called her that following weekend. But, what can you do. Now I only wish she was not dating the @$$hole from Fossil Ridge. Oh well, lesson learned. But, my plans in the next 12 to 18 months includes a new tenor trombone and an F Tuba shortly to follow.

I have a tuba that doesn't have a personal name, but it is unique. I call it my Eb dent-o-phone. It's about 75 years old, and the most battered (sort of) working tuba I have ever seen. It's main uses are frigthtening the neighbors and amusing small children. It was a successful part of my costume at a Halloween party a couple of years ago (people must have loved it; they even said that they had no words to describe it!).

I haven't really named my current horn, but my Conn 20K in high school was named Gertrude.

The School YBB 641 I play on now is named George. My old sousaphone in High School was Sally-- Actually my sis named her--I prefer male names. The Jupiter never had a name cause I didn't like it. The St. Petersburg I played during my junior year was Sam. And the beater I had from 7-11th grades was Toby The tuba.

I have an old small Besson that I bought off Ebay, named Claude, who is from Canada, after an old 60's-70's baseball player named Claude Raymond, who was from Canada.
He used to have a sister named Dorothy, who was a similar tuba from Kansas.
I also have a very large, heavy, old Yamaha 321 who is "the Yokazuna", which is the highest rank that can be bestowed in Japanese sumo wrestling. Sometimes that is what I feel I am doing.
I bought a new 321 as the Yokazuna was being damaged by going to unpleasent tuba events involving bleachers, concrete, and the like. This new, beautiful and agile assasin from the orient is O Ren Ishii Ii, after Lucy Liu's character in "Kill Bill".
