I'm not talking about a Gemienhardt, or a W. Nirschl. Where can I find the real thing and try it out?

I don't think there is a Nirschl importer presently. Your best bet is to find someone who owns a Nirschl and try their horn. If you're serious, find out when Walter will build his next batch and make a trip. It can be 'difficult' when trying to accomplish that but worth the effort.

However... I did hear some 'rumbling' a few months back that Herr Nirschl is no longer having his horns made in Brazil and was moving the production to China.

Sure wish they'd fire the Bohm & Meinl factory back up and make some more REAL tubas!

edit... oops! I just re-read your original post. As far as I know, you cannot purchase a NEW original B & M-built Nirschl tuba unless you would happen to stumble across some old stock. I think that factory is shuttered.

Tinker, the W. Nirschl tubas were being made in Brazil for Gemstone and that partnership has fallen through, completely and finally.
Cooley may be the best bet for purchase but I'll be he says contact Walter.

If I understand the explanation that Dick Barth offered at the Midwest Band & Orchestra Clinic last month, the Nirschl/W. Nirschl name is disappearing from the tubas that he is showing. The Gemeinhardt brand name will be used on these Chinese (not Brazilian) tubas. Also, there have been some modifications to the instruments since the W. Nirschl series was introduced. (Yes, the leadpipe, but there are other changes.)

Richard Barth has his own blog for those who want to keep current with the Gemienhardt tubas.

No offense to Walter, but all these branding changes are far too confusing. I'm just a tuba player, ya know...

Can a person try out and possibly purchase a new bona-fide German-made Nirschl (aka Bohm & Meinl) tuba?
