I didn't? Well, there you go...

Using a magnetic dent removal tool still requires skill and practice if you don't want to reduce the value of an instrument to "scrap" status.

Proceed with caution in your dedentifications.

The worst mistake is made when padding is placed on the front of the magnet. That soft face will 'telegraph' any finish that's inside the horn to the outside. When using magnetic dents tools... I only use a thin sheet of Mylar on the face of the magnet. Those pads that UMI sent with the original 'Dent Erasers' were the worst!

LJV is 100% right. Especially about smaller dings.

You still need lots of practice to do nice work with magnets. You also need different techniques, magnet strength and ball sizes for different jobs. Many people make the mistake of picking up the largest magnet and largest ball, which frequently creates ridges where a smaller magnet and smaller ball and a bit of lubrication can do a nice job in the proper hands.

I like the magnets, but they aren't magic...and those burnishers are my favorite tools.
