Conn 5J - I think I'm in love

I picked this up at the Greyhound station at lunchtime today, and I've been messing with it this evening: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=48338&hilit=conn+5j" target="_blank

It isn't a pretty tuba to look at. But the richness of the sound is just incredible. I keep catching myself pulling it away from my face and looking at it, doubting that *I* could be making these sounds on *this*. Looking forward to a band rehearsal on Sunday, to see how it does in an ensemble.

Great Horns... My old high school had one tucked away I had found... The schools only 4 banger, and it was a beautiful sounding, physically ugly instrtument. Have fun with your find!

I've got one of those. Only I call mine an Olds 009-4. I've let people who play better than me try it out and they all love the low end and the sound.

That horn has a few dents in it but it is kinda cool that you can see the joint between the bell and the stack.

Have fun with your new toy...

My 21J has that same thing going on. I assume it means it's been buffed to within an inch of its life. But it does look kind of interesting.
