Hi everyone,

Hoping someone might be able to provide some info on this mysterious Craigslist tuba in L.A.: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/ms ... 04855.html" target="_blank

Seller says the bell is marked "soul instrument7" and sent these photos: http://goo.gl/xb2Lt" target="_blank

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help!

~Luke

I find the main tuning slide a bit wide, but otherwise I see two elements strongly pointing towards B&S:

the shape of the thumb ring flange

the entry angle into the first rotor together with the exit angle from the 4th rotor

Both elements are copyable, however, so I cannot say anything for sure.

Looks like there is a reasonably big engraving on the bell. Why not ask for a clear photo thereof?

"soul instrument7" to me sounds like an ownership engraving. Or like a really weird Chinese stencil brand.

If you are interested in a small Asian CC... I'll make you a great deal on the one I pictured.

What you have pictured is the JBCB-400L 3/4 CC. Stay away as they do not play in-tune.

Thanks for all the info!

I'm helping a student look for a horn for cheap. Any other suggestions for (preferably) less than $600?

ALWAYS believe EVERYTHING you read on Tubenet!!!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty darned sure that Dan would NOT rip you off. I've dealt with him before and am sure I will more than happily do so again.

Actually... I didn't imply that it was a great horn. The original poster said he was looking for a horn 'on the cheap'. Generally... cheap and great do not go hand-in-hand. :)
