I was just reading an article about the Oscars for Short Subjects - an entry from Norway about a dying old man who builds a giant tuba ( to attempt contact with his brother in North America ) looks interesting. There are several teasers clip around, this shows some of the tuba ( looks like it was made from old car parts !). here

Well, maybe since it did not win an Oscar tonight it will be shown on the Net sooner? Looks even more interesting!

Almost anyone who doesn't read this Board would be interested in the plot, emotional reaction, denouement, etc.

We (OK, yours truly included) are the "focused" few who want to know more about, well, why the movie is titled, Tuba Atlantic?

Having seen only the trailer and another clip from the film, I do not know its full content. Does the monstrosity actually play any (or one) note(s) at the end of the film? If so, what/who was used to create the sound?

What is the relevance of the photo below, and who are the people holding tubas?

The main character, Oskar, is told by the doctor that he has six days left. Oskar has a brother with whom he has had no contact in years, he believes the brother lives in New Jersey. The brothers built the Tuba Atlantic together, but never tried it, the goal was that it should be heard to America. He decides to crank it up if only the wind would turn west. Oskar dies right after the radionews reports of a phenomenon across the Atlantic.
