Hello there-

I wonder if anyone has experienced a build-up of gummy/sticky goop inside the horn (especially at the tops and bottoms of valves and inside the valves themselves) while using Blue Juice? I'm typically pretty good about brushing my teeth before playing and I don't apply slide grease that often (and when I do it is in small amounts). Is Blue Juice the culprit? Could it be caused by something like weird pH in my saliva or something along those lines?

I experienced this and concluded the Blue Juice (frequently applied) was dissolving slide grease which redeposited itself as "build-up". No problem since switching to Hetman's.-- Rick Oakes

I thought I was the only one......I find this blue junk when I take out my pistons, I had considered that it might always be there but the blue juice made me notice it more. Hetman's eh? Maybe I can try something new in 05. Peace. ASG

It's interesting that you mention this because the grime, while not as deep a blue as Blue Juice itself, appears to have a bluish hue to it which led me to the thought that the oil might be to blame.

I started out using hetman when i first got my euph. But I noticed gthaat I needed to clean my horn every 2 weeks or so b/c there was green stringy stuff coming out of my valve casings. I switched to blue juice and have had no problems.

I have used Blue Juice for many years now on my Willson 2900 and not encountered any of the problems mentioned.

Is there really that much of a difference in vaulve oils? All the kinds have been the same, and frankly they don't last long enough, only a few minutes, but they move fine without any. I mostly just oil before I play fast passages, is there anything I can do for this?

A year ago I bought my Miraphone 1291 and decided to "do it right" with valve oil so I bought about every kind on the market. I hate sucking gas fumes so many of the petroleum based products were ruled out immediately. Then I tried Binak, but it did not last and did some gumming up since it was a solvent for the slide grease. Their tuning slide grease didn't help much. I finally ended up with Hetman's #2 and it is the best I have ever used. It lasts forever and does not gum up my valves. It is compatible with petroleum based so there does not seem to be an issue their. I also use their slide products and my 1st valve slide works very well when I combine their slide products with their valve oil. Initially, I had to clean my valves a couple of times as the old valve oil was displaced. Anyway, after much experimentation, this seems to be the "ultimate" (until another new one comes along)
