Recently given an old mouthpiece , black from tarnish , the exterior is pyramid stepped like a Marcinkiewicz , deep funnel interior , smallish throat ...it is marked EZ TONE USA
Anyone with a thought on what this might be or how old it is ? I will try to give a toot after it gets cleaned ...

Great cheap mouthpieces! Made by Conn in the 60's or 70's. They came in a couple of sizes one of them being for a larger tuba BBb or C, and 1 for a smaller tuba (Eb). I loved using one I found in the closet in the old band hall on a Conn 10J in middle school. Wish I still had that mouthpiece.

That reminds me of the time I scrounged around the little band office in middle school soon after I switched to tuba. Found a 'stepped' E-Z tone tuba mpc and one of those old Conn mpcs that is shaped like a bell. Both had a hazy tarnish on them.
I also found a lacquered King detachable front bell in it's own case in nearly perfect condition tucked away in the band room. I told the band director about it and he said that old bell was for an Eb tuba. Never found the tuba body for that bell...

Later on in high school, I scrounged the repair shop next to the old band room. I found a bin full of old mouthpieces including a King 26 and a Perantucci 0. Both were beaten up - nicks & scratches everywhere, shanks out of round, etc. The King mpc shank actually had a couple splits in it, but one of the other souzy players used it anyway after I found it. I held on to the Perantucci 0 ......I cleaned it and rounded out the shank.
Band director said I could keep it as long as I play tuba.
I have actually used that mpc a few times. It is a 'skinny' mpc that has a wide diameter and a deep funnel cup. It has a big, BRIGHT sound. I still have it.
