Sousaphone help.

Hey all.

I currently have a sousaphone sitting around collecting dust and was considering selling it and using the money towards another horn... but I have no idea what it's true worth is! I've posted some pictures and any help would be appreciated. It's a 1963 Conn Naked Lady, 20k I think. :tuba:

It used to belong to a high school but was Retired since it was completely frozen. I had the valves lapped so they work great now, and all the slides have been pulled and move (though some are still pretty tough). The horn plays wonderfully now.

A 20K would have short-action, offset valves. This one is most likely a 14K... which in my humble opinion is a better sousa than the 20K, anyway.

Hey all,

So i'm going to be moving to seattle in a month and a half, and need to cover my costs. I won't have room for most of my stuff and have decided to part with a few horns, this sousaphone included.

What is a good asking price for this Conn 14k?

Thanks

Rob

Sell it before you move up here, but you're asking the wrong crowd. There reportedly is an excellent market for sousaphones in California, but we mostly know only what everyone knows about it. There may be some legit dealers there who know the scene, what the players want and how much they're usually willing to pay. They might be music stores listed in the phone book, or some guy dealing out of his house, the musicians would know.
