Hi All - We are hosting a very special and exciting event at the Butler School of Music, and you and your students are invited to attend as honored guests! This event will be of particular interest to all of your brass players, as it features one of the finest tuba virtuosos in America. Please see below and email Maria Tway to reserve your VIP tickets for the pre-concert event!
On Tuesday, March 27 at 7:30 PM, The University of Texas Wind Symphony and UT faculty tuba soloist Charles Villarrubia will premiere Donald Grantham's TUBA CONCERTO in Bates Recital Hall on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin.
The concert is free and open to the public. Special VIP tickets, which include access to a private pre-concert “sneak-peak” with the composer, soloist, and ensemble are available to you and your students by contacting Maria Tway via email ( mtway@austin.utexas.edu" target="_blank" target="_blank ) or phone (512) 232-1903. The schedule for evening is as follows:

6:30 PM Pre-Concert talk and preview of excerpts from the Grantham TUBA CONCERTO - Bates Recital Hall
7:00 PM Doors open to general public

About the work and soloist:
Donald Grantham's Tuba Concerto is a twenty-minute, three-movement tour de force for tuba soloist. The work explores a wide array of range, style, color and character, all of which Mr. Villarrubia exhibits effortlessly on his instrument. Every musician will be impressed with Mr. Villarrubia's stirring and inspiring sense of musical line, and brass players will simply be in awe of his astounding technique. This promises to be a night to remember for all who attend!
