Homemade Gig Bag

My mother is quite the seamstress, so I employed her to make me a gig bag for my King 1240 and detachable bell. Having spent less than $500 on the horn itself, I didn't feel like dropping a bunch on a gig bag, but I still wanted a way to get it around without lugging the hard case (and I didn't have a case for the bell). All in all it cost about $60 in materials.
*Edit: I forgot to mention that it is made of canvas with 1" foam padding and lined with a soft cotton fabric over the foam.
She just cut out the back of a backpack for the straps; pretty slick I think...
Enjoy!

I would have rated it at 110% had she been able to fashion the bell-and-bag into some sort of hat.
Done! I simply removed the foam-covered disc that protects the top of the bell, cinched it up and voila! Instant bell hat!

Haha, it would act more as a black-out shade.... or brown-out, since that's the color of the canvas (bah-dum ching!)

That's wonderful! I will have to think about sewing together my own gig bag, so I can customize it however I like.

That's really cool, your mom did an awesome job. I've thought about making my own gig bag before, but I'm not sure my sewing machine would be able to sew through so much fabric... do you know if your mom uses a heavy-duty/industrial type machine or just a regular one?

She does a lot of sewing, so I know she's got a very nice machine, I don't know that it would classified as "heavy duty" or "industrial" but I can ask. I know she used a heavier thread for upholstery type fabric.

Honestly, the bell case was my favorite part when she sent me pictures! She just nailed it!
