What tuba is Chuck using in this video? It looks like the Yamaha 621, but the bell is silver.... Anyone know what that is? I assume they did a bell swap with something. Just curious...

I don't know what type this one is, but I recently emailed them and asked what type of tuba he is using now. I was kind of taken back when they told me that he is using a York tuba with a carbon fiber bell. Hope that helps!

Are you talking about this horn?

I would imagine that tuba weighs a lot less w/the CF bell. You don't see Chuck sit down very often during performances.

He does lie down on the floor from time to time.

It was, from what I have been told, a Yamaha CC with York Eb bell (not the monster but the smaller Eb)

Yamaha valve cluster, York and other miscellaneous tubing for the valve slides, York branches and a carbon fiber bell. Conn-Selmer is developing a tuba for Chuck, just takes a bit of time.

Unless there was a "medium" eb (like the 17" bell Martin and Buescher Eb), the small York Eb's bell is too short. I measured my little York eb's bell and It was only 19" long.

The last contemporary photo I say of him was with a Conn 2J.

As far as I've heard, they won't be making him anything... at least, nothing for production. They're gun-shy about CCs.

Gun-shy, yes, but still going to make him something. With the changes in the ownership of the company, they are taking a lot more time doing diligent research before launching product, as the company isn't trying to make similar mistakes. I hope that they will see a growing opportunity for CC tubas, and try to make an instrument to fit that place in the market.

I just hope something comes out while Chuck is still young...

They still make the 15J, so they could "easily" make a 3J. They still make a 2341, so they could "easily" make a 52J (they were supposed to offer a tuning slide leg to allow removal of the 5th, but they never did; and a carbon fiber bell would make it light and nice for Chuck). They probably shredded the plans and mandrel for the Harvey Phillips because - hey - it's important for a big corporation to shed assets. They could still order the "Conn Int'l" rotary, right?

That little Holton is no more? I always thought it was a neat looking horn; I'd like to try the Bb.

I liked the BBb too - it's was a bit broader sounding than it looked.

Yeah, I would have liked to have played one (HP BBb),as well. They have got to be out there somewhere. I have never seen a used one offered for sale. Unlikely horn for schools one would think.
