Why isn't this played more often? I remember it back in college some 25 years ago but never performed it, I guess it was because I did not understand it. When I had a friend pick it up at the tuba conference all I had access to was my F tuba so I relearned it on that. All I can say is that it does sound nice on F and there are parts that work very well, but, the low register stuff is a huge challenge as well as some of the fingering combinations. Since I had access to a CC this week I was able to put a little time into it and it works much better on the big horn. Again, I think this is something we need to hear more of. IMHO

I played Ricercare back in 2009,
at the Moravian Music Festival in Belmont, NC.
I guess it must be a different movement?
We played this at the Trombone Choir concert,
I was the lone Contrabass Trombone.

As I read the Wiki page linked to the name Ricercare basically means the same as the English word research.

As ricercares originally were preludes, it might be interesting to pair them with the music they were intended to prepare.

Just a note: The composer of Tom's Ricercare is Domenico Gabrieli. (a virtuoso cellist and composer from Bologna during the mid 17th century) He is no relation to the Venitian Gabrielis, Andrea and Giovanni (Andrea is the composer of the work mentioned above.)
