Kalison Daryl Smith question...

A recent post on Kalison Tubas got me thinking about the lead pipe...
I seem to remember there were two possible lead pipes to the Kalison DS CC tuba, and I even remember calling up the Tuba Exchange to get a price quote for the smaller one. I didn't end up getting it, but it made me think about something else: since the Mirafone 1292 replaced the 1291 lead pipe the whole horn played 'much' better; if the Kalison DS CC's had been shipped with the smaller lead pipe, would they have played 'a lot' better too?
I know there is a bit more difference in the 1291 to the 1292 than just the lead pipe, but I'm just using it as an example.
Maybe the guys who posted here saying their DS model was 'excellent' just had the smaller lead pipes on theirs?
Anybody?
