I'm doing inventory at the school where I teach and came across a "Cavalier" brand trumpet, serial no. 28654, but says "Elkhart, IND" which I thought was King. Was "Cavalier" a model or a rebranding of some sort? Just curious...

The Cavalier Musical Instrument Company was created as a subsidiary of the Conn Musical Instrument Company and I believe that they produced their instruments in the Pan American factory in Elkhart.

Ok, thanks for the information. That's very interesting because I've come across some Pan American instruments too and I was curious about that as well since I'd never heard of that brand either. Thanks!

You sir are advertising your age, or lack thereof. 'twould be nice to be so young as to not have heard of those stallwarts of an age gone by. Not that they were great horns.........however, I did have a very remarkable Pan American Eb once.

It's true, I am but a lad (coming up on 27 in June) and I really hadn't heard of either of those two brands until I got my job at this school. This is part of why I love TubeNet, there's so much knowledge to be passed around!

Enjoy it while you can. I'm sure there are advantages to being over 65, but I can't remember exactly what they are. I do remember the advantages of being 27...................

Oh yeah!

Fifty years from now... someone's gonna have to sort out all of the M & M, Schiller, Roy Bensen, etc. etc. names.
