Hello all,

I am in the beginning stages of planning my junior recital and would love to end the program with a brass quintet piece. Nothing to long, maybe 8 minutes tops and something kind of flashy (maybe even tuba heavy ). My quintet has been together for about a year and a half now, so we know each other pretty well and are usually up to a challenge. We plan on meeting a couple times this summer, so if I could get something that may be slightly challenging in our hands now, it be great. Open to any and all suggestions.

I like Jack End's "Three Salutations". It might be out of print but worth a look. Check with Michael Allen right there in Boulder. He has a ton of stuff.

All, or just selections from Concertant Svit, Christer Danielsson. Its a great tuba feature

Tuba Tiger Rag! That is one of my all time favorite quintet pieces.

"Impressions of a Parade" After a recital, you need something with good tuba but not too much work. Relax and have fun with it, let everyone else work a bit for you.

I'll second the vote for Tuba Tiger Rag. One the heavy stuff is done have a little fun!

Another vote for the Arnold. A few others that might be fun would be by Bozza or the Ewald Sonatas. And there are plenty of good transcriptions of Bach's Contrapuncti. A fugue can be a great crowd pleaser.

Four Outings For Brass - written by Andre Previn for the PJBE and dedicated to "Fletch". A real tour de force for the tuba player.

My recommendation would be for Vuelta del Fuego by Kevin Mckee. It's fun to rehearse and really fun listening for the audience. Basically it's Zorro movie music and there are some incredible moments in it. Go here to hear a performance of it:

The audiences always love this piece.
