Trooping the Colours 2012

Post by imperialbari »

The British members of TN will know how to watch this great parade on their TV’s.

At least some continental TN members will have the opportunity to watch the parade on the German ARD channel this coming Saturday at 11.40AM Central European Time.

Checking my YouTube account after a night’s work with scores, YT throws this in my face as a suggestion for viewing:

I am not insanely impressed by the straightness of the guardsmen’s lines, whereas the massed band of the Household Guard regiments drills immensely much better. They have an insane maneuver of rotating the block of 200+ bandsmen by having them march individually in all directions. Works!

Liked the parade this year for its music selection.

Verdi (Nabucco & Aida), Don Giovanni, and a piece of real music, which I think was from Mendelssohn’s Reformation symphony. Well recorded, so that the balance was good all the way through my sound system. Otherwise the balance problems appear being mostly in how the mics catch especially the upper and the lowest frequencies. If one listened to parts of the transmission one might assume that the British military bands were only one huge 3-part trombone section, which certainly is not the case in real life listening.

In the anthem the woods and the horns for odd reasons were the loudest. And in one big move of the band the off-beats from the horns dominated everything. Bell angles and microphone directionality must have lined up well.
