Great Time Jazz Band in D.C.??

Post by Jeff Keller »

Does anyone know the tuba player in the Great Time Jazz Band? I heard them while in DC tonight and was blown away by the monster 4 valve helicon player and would like to give him his props! If you ever get a chance to hear them, do it! Fun was had by all!!

Cheers,

Jeff

Judging from the really lousy picture I saw on a review site, which restricted me to part of a profile, it looks to me like Tom Holtz.

And judging from the utter lack of web presence other than associated with this performance as part of the National Gallery's Jazz in the Park series, I suspect this band existed for this one gig. But Tom is a prolific performer and absolutely lays down a mean Dixieland bass with his Eb helicon. He plays in a number of groups and gigs frequently. (And he is in the President's Own.)

I can confirm that it was the great Tom Holtz.
